”This building isn’t supposed to be used in this way…”
”It’s a zoned site, it’s out of bounds.”
”Don’t you have a performance centre where you should be?”
”This is not that kind of building.”
”We cannot allow any activity that affects the environment or atmosphere of the building in this way”
Some quotes in relation to my earlier post.
It’s funny how long it takes for contests of space to become apparent. Working on a site, you expect that everyone who would have a problem with you being there to be pretty up on it.
Today, working in a space, we encountered a group of academics, belonging to a certain institution, who had a problem with us working in the space we were working in. Having seen the various installations we were creating, which were non-intrusive, designed not to block any entrance or exits, existing in corners or in-between spaces. Examples can be found at NoPlaceLikeHome. These academics had varying problems with the installations - including them blocking entrances and exits, responses from prospective students being rather negative, and disturbing the building as a working building.
All complete ****.
To withdraw into one’s corner is undoubtedly a meager expression.
If I were asked to name the chief benefit of the house, I should say the house shelters daydreaming, the house protects the dreamer, the house allows one to dream in peace.
The corner is a haven that ensures us one of the things…
Gaston Bachelard’s theory from The Poetics of Space:
Memories are motionless, and the more securely they are fixed in space, the sounder they are.

Went to see Liz Aggiss at my uni tonight. What a brilliant performer. The show was recounting/recapping/refreshing/satirising/satisfying her career so far. An autobiographical exploration into her own work, where that work has come from, and satirising contemporary dance as a whole.
Considering my own work; it’s recounted/recapped/refreshed/satirised/satisfied my own interest in autobiographical work. I suppose it’s difficult when you’re young and discount so much of your life, take it for granted, to consider it for autobiographical work, but why let that stop me?
I’m spending tonight looking back at various videos I’ve made, considering how I can feed them back into a performance. Also considering getting a tech for my next solo performance, so I don’t have to fuck about myself. Considered.
Puddle Monsters is a project in miniature by Kurt and Edwige Moses. Totally seeing Slinkachu inspiration here.
